Lately, I have been looking back on the past year, thinking about the challenges, the injuries, and the goals met. More specifically I have been remembering my climbing projects and the competitions I competed in. This has driven me to ask myself, "What do I want to focus on? Do I want to focus on training for competitions or just building up my athletic ability on real rock?" I spent the whole year training for climbing competitions and still didn't have a good idea of what was really my style. After the trip to Petchaburi, I knew. The trip cemented the idea that I just want to be an athlete. I've learned to love the process called GR(R)IP shorthand for Goals, Role, (Resource), Interaction, & Passion.
Here is how this process is playing out in my life. My G(oal) in 2011 is to take as many climbing trips as I can around Thailand. These trips will include visits to the rock face in: Koh Yao Noi, Lop Buri, Sara Buri, and Chiang Dao. One of the biggest goals, a three year project of mine, is completing a 5.13c. I am quite stoked to complete this so I may progress onto the next goal. The R(ole) I am setting is by following my Resource and inspiration Jonathan Siegrist . He has been a great example for me to work hard and to become successful. In terms of Interaction, I would like to surround myself with others who focus on training hard, rather then being sidetracked by late nights out drinking. “Drink less and climb more.” I think this will help both my body and mind to be prepared for climbing. Lastly, I want to talk about the “P” for Passion! One of my good friends told me, if you are passionate, anything can happen. I believe this is true and have seen it in many others lives. Climbing is my passion, therefore I know I can accomplish great things!
My Next Destination (KYN)
The first stop on the list is a trek to Koh Yao Noi in March!? I will keep you updated! So, with all of this said, I know that 2011 is going to be a great year! Expect great things!
Happy New Year all! 2011!
Cheers,
Nstar
