Recently, a good friend of mine named Jonathan Siegrist completed one of America's most challenging sport climbing routes. The route, located in western Colorado's Fortress of Solitude, was Kryptonite (5.14d). First established in 1999 by Tommy Caldwell, it became an inspiration to Jstar. Three years after getting serious about doing this climb, Jstar succeeded. I am proud of my friend. His climbing has always inspired me to be more confident in my training abilities and pushed me past simple climbing and onto pro-climbing. From his encouragement, I have pushed past my old efforts of training. Now my thought is "train, train, train to climb harder." Soon, on October 8th and 9th, I will get to test my new limits at the next competition in Bangkok.
preparing to Climb on The Horse know the way
Lately, I have been working on the route "The Horse Know the Way" (5.12a/b) and Josh thought it would be a good idea to send the camera crew from Mad Rock out there with me to film it. Once out at Crazy Horse, I had to psych myself up. "You can do it man..." the extra pressure was a bit unnerving. I took a couple breaths in, then I started to climb and concentrated my efforts to get to the top. Guess what? "I got it!," even with everyone watching.
I was stoked for making it to the top. I had been working on that route for three weeks, making multiple attempts every week. Even after my tenth try I still hadn't made it to the top. So I increased my training with running, sit ups, push ups, etc... and as I proved by climbing "Horse Know the Way," it worked! Now that I have met my recent goal I am setting my sights high for the BKK comps, after which Ooan and I hope to spend some time climbing at Lop Buri or Sara Buri.
Can't wait to rock Bangkok.
Crank on!
