On April 9th, the caving team from Chiang Mai Caving Club traveled to Doi Ang Kang. It is about 3 and a half hours from Chiang Mai and is surrounded by so many mountains, gorgeous! The weather was perfect too! Unlike last November, it was still a bit cool. We arrived at 7:30pm and checked into our rooms. After a snack, we prepared our caving gear for the next day, showered and headed to bed (so tired from the long drive).
April 10th, we woke up early to a beautiful morning, such awesome weather. After breakfast, the six of us readied ourselves and headed to Dead Robber Waterfall Cave. Although I had been to the cave twice before, I had not gone to the end of the cave. So this would be my first time! We set up our rigging and descended into the cave. Once in the cave we found two spots where we had to practice abseiling (or rappelling). The first one was 64 meters long (which is about 209ft). We spent 12 hours inside of the cave. We came to a small hole, which i peered inside and climbed into a bit. I found had water coming out but it was so cold, I was scared of getting hypothermia. Our team decided this is the dead end, since we could not go anymore. We came to the same conclusion as the last team that entered the cave 25 years ago. So we decided to turn around. Eleven hours was the length of time it took us to cave Dead Robber.
April 11th is Ooan and I's birthday. On this day we went to another nearby cave, called Sink Hole. We only had time to explore half of the cave, because we needed to leave today.
Next year we hope to come back here again. Thank you Chiang Mai Climbing Club! It was such a great time to spend my birthday with such wonderful people!
