So, after a week long break from training, I was pumped and ready to step up to the challenge of traditional climbing. CMRCA hosted a special Trad Climbing Course with Mario and other guests out at the crag. This style of climbing is much more complex then sport climbing. You need to learn how to use the proper gears and to slow your speed in order to attain accuracy of your set route. This training course was to refresh us on when to use what gears and clips where; because in a few weeks the American Mountain Guiding Association will come. The AMGA will offer certifications to those who wish to become professional instructors. The training pumped me up. I'm ready to do this!
While out at the crag Ooan and I warmed up on a couple 5.11+. After completing the routes, I stepped up to work on my project 5.12a called Jai Kra Rue Pbow (Brave). Five attempts and a narrow miss it was time to call it a day. Soon it will be conquered, I can guarantee it!
All of this upbeat energy is partly coming from the season of Loi Kra thong. This was celebrated last weekend on the 20th-22nd. This is when the Thai people celebrate a new season by lighting paper lanterns which lift off into the sky taking away the bad (with hopes of good to come and fill the void). As I was driving around Chiang Mai town, I could see so many lanterns and fireworks. People were celebrating and enjoying the parades. The excitement was captivating and Ooan and I joined too. We lit our lanterns and watched them join hundreds of others. Someday you should join in the Loi Kra Thong celebration too. You will love it!
